If you're searching for a gluten-free lunch or dinner in Trieste then definitely give Antico Panada right by the Canal Grande di Trieste a try.
I was searching for a bite to eat in and just happened to wander past the place and noticed the little crossed grain gluten free icons clearly marked on their outside menu (an icon pretty much universally recognised by coeliacs!)
I'd spent the morning wandering the narrow streets and taking in the Trieste sea air so I was famished! It didn't take long for me to opt for the grilled swordfish and pistachios with a side of grilled vegetables.
Just look at that! Simple fresh ingredients all cooked to perfection and naturally gluten-free. What more could you ask for?
To top it all off, when I mentioned to the waiter: "non posso mangiare pane" (I can't eat bread) - they replaced the standard bread basket on the table with a selection of rice crackers! Lovely extra touch.
What's more, because the restaurant has outside seating right by the Canal Grande di Trieste the meal comes with an excellent view too.
