A couple of months ago I was in Edinburgh freelancing for a while, and as per usual, I was on the hunt for gluten-free places to eat!
Enter: Belted Burgers. A short walk from where I was staying in Stockbridge, I'd walked past the place a fair few times before finding out (online) that they do gluten-free options! I just had to check it out.
First of all, you'll know you're in the right place when you see the plastic cow outside that moos as you walk past it... definitely didn't scare me the first time I walked past!!
Secondly, the staff were lovely, as soon as I mentioned being gluten-free they pointed out they had a brand new gluten-free pilsner and guided me through the menu.
I ordered the "blue shroom" burger, mostly because blue cheese on a burger is my absolute favourite, and a pint of the gluten-free pilsner to wash it down.
It was a very generous helping... almost too generous! I insist on eating a burger with my hands, none of that knife and fork gubbins.. has to be held by the bun! Which is a tad difficult when the burger is stacked as high as this one was. That being said, it was utterly delicious, my mouth is watering right now thinking about the juicy burger and salty blue cheese combination. The gluten-free bun was also quite light and yet held together quite well which was impressive!
The gluten-free pilsner from Drygate was a delight, having grown up without beer I love trying out new gluten-free options, this one was a welcome addition.
A note on the beef... Belted insist on using 100% prime Scottish beef that is locally sourced (from Dumfries & Galloway) and you can really tell - good quality produce = better quality & tasty food.
Oh, and every order comes with a side of fries as standard.. the way it should be! Win.
Top marks for Belted burgers, definitely one to check out if you're on the hunt for a gluten-free burger in Edinburgh.
