This place is a real gem for coeliacs in Trieste: a completely gluten-free bakery! Exactly like the gluten-free bakery in London I wanted to buy everything in there, bread, toast, sandwiches, pastries, biscuits, all of which looked delicious.
On my first visit (of course I went back!) it was lunch time, so opted for the pepperoni, cheese, and olive sandwich:
It was mouthwateringly good. The bread was light, and held together perfectly, all complimented by the delicious filling.
I couldn’t just leave it at the sandwich, not with so many gluten-free pastries on offer. In the end the Italian cream horns won:
One word: devoured. The pastry was so well made, light, flaky, and utterly moreish.
That was lunch, but a few hours later I went back for seconds. Another sandwich and this time a slice of pizza with mushroom and ham. Perfect for a gluten-free snack while watching the sun go down on my last night in Trieste.
If you’re in Trieste, definitely head over to Pasticceria Il Giglio for all your gluten-free & coeliac needs!
